UMBRIA: THE GREEN HEART OF ITALY - REGION OF 100 TOWNS.

Umbria is a region with few rivals in its capacity to surprise, delight and capture the heart of the travellers. It is never easy to explain the reasons of the "heart" so well known by the many foreign travellers who over the centuries have dreamed of settling in Umbria, as well as by the many who live there today, fully appreciating the special quality of life in the Umbrian towns and countryside.
The region offers so many peaceful spots to be discovered, natural environments still unspoiled by man, far from the traffic, noise and industries of the modern metropolis. Here it is still possible to live in close contact with nature, enjoying the beauty of a land rich in history, memories and centuries-old traditions.

Corciano

In this small and variegated area you will be surprised by a mosaic of environments, a gentle and harmonious succession of landscapes and natural settings. Once inside the region, everything is so close that it is only a brief jaunt to get from the luminous Lake Trasimeno area to the rugged and wooded landscapes around Gubbio; from the serene olive groves of the Umbran Valley or Vale of Spoleto, to the spectacular high plains of Castelluccio and Norcia; from the luxuriantly green Valnerina dotted with towers and castles to the Sibilline mountains, rich in myths and legend, and then descending towards the gentle hills of the Amerino area and tormented guilles gourged into the volcanic soil of Orvieto.

HISTORY AND ART

The widespread beauty in the region triumphs in the masterpieces in the towns. The Town Halls in Perugia, Todi and Gubbio, the cathedrals in Orvieto and Spoleto and the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi are peak achievements of a vocation to the beautiful that Palazzo dei Prioribelongs to the entire region. The vitality of the Umbrian culture has produced a number of extraordinary masterpieces and it is not by chance that Umbria has many museums spread throughout the region organized in an advanced network which distributes a large number of centres and structures in larger and smaller towns.

Umbria
Already at the time of the Etruscan and of the Roman colonization the conditions had been established for a strong and enduring relationship between man and the environment. The towns are often perched on hills, where they were founded by the ancient Umbrians and Etruscans. The region does not have a particularly high population density but it is dotted with small towns, villages and castles in every corner, often very scenically set into the surrounding countryside, according to an original pattern which stems from the Middle Ages.
